Jimi Hendrix was born James Marshall Hendrix on November 27, 1942. Jimi Hendrix was a singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Jimi Hendrix is regarded as one of the best electric guitarists that ever lived. Jimi started playing the guitar when he was fifteen years old. He was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and at the age of eighteen he joined the United States Army, and received an honorable discharge.
After his discharge from the Army, Jimi Hendrix started a band called the King Kasuals. Jimi did something that no other guitarist did, and that was play the guitar with his teeth. In 1964, “Testify” was released. The single didn’t do much, then Jimi played the guitar instrumental for “Mercy Mercy”, for Don Covay. That song did very well, and hit number thirty five on the Billboard music chart. In 1965, Jimi recorded, “I Don’t Know What You Got (But Its Got Me) with Little Richie. The song didn’t reach high on the charts.
Jimi Hendrix made his first television debut in July of 1995. He played backup for Little Richard’s band. Jimi joined Curtis Knight and the Suires later that year, and that lasted only eight months. Jimi Hendrix signed a music contract with Ed Chalpin. Jimi started touring the United Kingdom where he released, “Purple Haze”, and “The Wind Cries Mary”. Both songs were successful in the United Kingdom, and made the top ten on the charts.
The Axis: Bold as Love album was released. The cover of the album featured a psychedelic cover. There were forms of Vishnu added along with a painting of Jim that was done by Roger Law. The Axis: Bold as Love peaked at number five for over three months in the United States.
Jimi Hendrix is known for his participation at Woodstock. Jimi Hendrix was the highest paid rocker in the world in 1969. He did a rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner”, and afterwards was condemned on his performance, because the Vietnam War was very active.
Jimi Hendrix died on September 18, 1970. The coroner stated that Jimi Hendrix died of asphyxia and barbiturates intoxication. Jimi Hendrix was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. The United Kingdom Music Hall of Fame inducted Jim Hendrix in 2005.
