CBGB, was the birthplace of NYC Punk Rock. The music club opened in 1973 by Hilly Kristal in Manhattan's East Village and closed in 2006. Many bands got their start there, including most of the top punk rock and new wave bands of the era like Ramones, Television, Patti Smith Group, Blondie, Beastie Boys, The Dead Boys, Misfits, Richard Hell and the Voidiods and Talking Heads.
